PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Thank you for making our implementation of Read Aloud Program (RAP) such a tremendous success.  Your participation, support and evaluations are sincerely appreciated.  There are six evening family RAP sessions and you may attend any or all of the sessions.  A RAP session is also held in each of the grades 3, 4 and 5 classrooms. The Hui O` Mililani Uka, our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and our teachers/staff agreed  to focus the Hui fund-raising efforts this year toward having RAP hold six family night sessions and fifteen classroom sessions.  The folders, handout materials, books, prizes, snacks, drinks and pizza are sponsored by many organizations listed on the right-hand edge of the sheet in the RAP folder that has the Read Aloud America Mission Statement.

Reinventing Education Act of 2004, also known as “Act 51”, provides for three main goals:

empowerment,  streamlining and  accountability. The brochures for the Reinventing Education Act for the Children of Hawaii (REACH) includes the information of Act 51.  Under the provisions for empowerment, our SCBM Council has been developing the by-laws for a School Community Council (SCC).  The SCC is required under Act 51 and members of the council are to be elected by the end of February.  Members are to be elected by the respective role groups: students (2), parents (5), community (2 elected by parents), faculty (5), staff (2), and administrators (2) with 50% members as school staff and 50% members non-school staff.  Our next SCBM meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 7, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the library.  If you are interested in being a council member, please attend the meetings and/or contact PCNC coordinator, Vikki Wong-Webb, and or a school administrator. Further information is forthcoming.
