Character Counts! sm helps to shape students’ lives through character education. This program was adopted January 2006 by all the Mililani Complex schools (Mililani Uka, Mililani `Ike, Mililani Mauka, Mililani Waena, Mililani Middle and Mililani High School). It is based on Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. One way students remember the pillars is through the word “terrific”- TRRFCC. Students learn to apply the Six Pillars in school, at home, and in the community. Positive Behavior expectations are tied to these six pillars, as can be seen in the following chart.
Core Ethical Value Behavioral Expectations- In all setting “I can…”
Trustworthiness -Be honest -Do what I say I will do
Respect -Use good manners -Use kind words -Respect school and personal property -Keep hands and feet to myself
Responsibility -Follow directions -Do my best -Keep on task -Be prepared and on time -Apologize for my mistakes
Fairness -Play and work by the rules -Take turns -Share
Caring -Be kind -Show appreciation -Help others
Citizenship -Obey rules and laws -Do my part to improve the school & community -Cooperate with others -Protect the environment -Respect authority -Make safe choices
