Minutes
Members Present:

I. Call to Order
Eric
Matsumoto called the meeting to order at 5:00
p.m. The meeting resumed after
a 5-minutes recess.
II. Introduction of Council/Guests
Members of
the council as well as guests introduced themselves.
III. Approval of Minutes
The minutes
of May’s SCBM were not available.
IV. Approval of Agenda
No changes were made to the
agenda. Some teachers were not able to
detach and read the agenda. The program
used to create the agenda was not compatible with some older Macs in the
teacher classrooms.
V. Reports
A. Hui Update-Joreen Murayama
Hui fundraisers for the
year being planned include the Magazine
Drive, Entertainment Books, Sally Foster gift wrapping,
as well as a Spring fundraiser. A craft
fair is being planned for December
17, 2006.
B. Student Council-Micah Thomas-Vieira,
Greg Watanabe
Student Council
recognized and collected items to ship to our deployed ohana. Two CDs and 40 letters have been sent to the
students and staff of Uka. School spirit
days were announced for the months of August and September. Welcome Assembly will be held on Aug 18,
Safety Assembly on Wednesday, September 7, and the Recognition Assembly on
Friday, September 23. Complex officer
training is scheduled for Friday, August 26 at Miliilani Mauka Elem.
The Homecoming parade will
be held on Friday, Sept 16-JPO and Peer Mediators plan to march in the parade. Uka has been receiving approximately; $50-60
/week from the green bins recycle. All
monies collected from recycling helps fund events and student support programs.
C. Teachers
K-1. Kindergarteners finished the small group
sessions. On Wednesday, all
kindergarteners will report for the entire day.
Grades
2-3. No report.
Grades
4-5. No report.
SPED. No report.
PCNC. Norma Tansey shared her report. Events include, Parent Orientation-July 28,
Physical Fitness Day-August 29, Safety Week-September 6-9, Kindergarten
Literacy “Read Aloud” night-September 7, All American Hero Night-September
20-22, Niketown 5-October 2.
D. Parents
No
report.
E. Community
Outback Steakhouse is
available to donate meals for $5.00 per plate for UKA fund raising
efforts. Scheduling needs to be done asfar
ahead as possible.
F. Management
1. No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
Tentative
good news. Cut off scores for NCLB and
for school meeting AYP is 28% in math and 44% reading. Mililani Uka’s Grade 3 yielded 57% for reading and 28% for math. Grade 5 yielded 76% for reading and 31% for math.

(CSSS) - No update

4. Standards Based Report Card
Workshop
for parents is forthcoming.
5. North Area Learning Team (NALT) - No
update
6. Standards Implementation Design (SID)
Format is
going to change due to the state’s three new strategic goals. Two parent meetings will be held; one
meeting to gather input and one to share the plan with the community. The SID is due to the Complex Area
Superintendent in November.

VII. New Business
A. Election of Officers
Nominations were opened and
elections held for officers. Elected by
unanimous consent of the sole nominee for each position were:
Chairperson: Eric Matsumoto
Vice-Chairperson: Cindi Saguibo
Secretary: Primary-Jan Fukada
Alternate-Mari Nishida
B. Meeting Date and Time
All agreed that meetings
would be held on the first Monday of the month at 5:00 p.m. Should a holiday occur on the scheduled
meeting day, a decision for the next scheduled meeting would be made at the previous
month’s meeting.
C. Member Orientation
The SCC Handbook is due from DOE,
but no date has been provided. The SCC
by-laws will be distributed to members as part of the orientation materials.
D. Process for SCC Input to SID,
Curriculum & Financials
In the past, Uka had
four focus groups. Due to the Supt’s new
strategic plan, it would be advantageous to consolidate the four groups into
three since the report template would be in the three areas. There needs to be sharing of the Action Plan
with the Council. The Council will have
an opportunity to provide input and recommendations. Input and recommendations would then be taken
back to the focus groups. Council
members are invited to participate in the focus groups which are normally held
on Wednesdays from 2:00 – 3:300pm. SCC
members will bring comments on the process to the August 29 meeting.
VIII. Announcements
A. Training
session for SCC members will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2005 from 8:30 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m. at Mililani High School Library.
B. August 4, begins school inspections for
fire and asbestos check.
C. Next meeting
August
29, 2005, Monday at 5:00
Parent input and community input
meeting will follow the SCC meeting. Time still needs to be determined.
September- No SCC meeting in September due to the Labor Day holiday
October 17- SCC meeting for sharing of the
plan.
November
7- Meeting to share the final plan to
the committee followed by parent/community meeting.
